Peaktus Interruptus RepeatusWhat a disturbing article written by Matt Carpenter. This year marked my eighth Pikes Peak Ascent, and I won this years Triple Crown in my age group so I know what it takes to do the Ascent and win. And believe me, Matt, it certainly does not feel like half winning! It takes a lot of will power, strength, determination and plain guts to do the Ascent. Some of us like to go out the very next day and pound the pavement and we can after doing just the Ascent. I have seen friends whove done the round trip unable to run for weeks, let alone run very well. So I think the decision is up to the individual runner, but dont criticize the Ascent runners for choosing a run that will leave them feeling drained and exhausted but also able to join others the very next day for a run that makes them feel good!
My hat is off to the Marathon runners, but no more than to the Ascent runners. Please dont try to belittle our accomplishments because you chose not to do the Marathon this year thats judgmental and unfair!
Congratulation on winning our age group Ed.
