2006 Pikes Peak News Archives

2005

Current trail conditions (during the running season) can be found in the news section of the Incline Club page.

1/18/2006 Fred Maas’s 2005 Ascent story was added to the collection.

11/16/05 The 76 “Things done right / things done wrong” stories that I received from the 2005 races were added here.

9/3/05 In honor of the PPM 50th anniversary book now for sale I have added five more books to the Pikes Peak Book collection.

9/2/05 The 2005 results were added to the archives today. [PPA/M results moved to pikespeakmarathon.org in 2015] All stats have also been updated! Speaking of stats, the one that blows me away is the number of Doublers! There were 137, or 15.5% of the Marathon field! Also, 3 of the top 5 fastest female Doubler times were run this year. Again, this just blows me away!

8/30/05 About 30 stories from the newspaper have been added to the press archives. I was also sent official results from the race today. I should have them incorporated into the database in the next few days. For those that have asked why the delay it simple; it takes a long time to compile the stats and I no longer do so using preliminary results because without exception there has always been a couple of changes before official results are released.

6/29/05 Today is the first day you could run to the summit without touching snow this year. On Sunday there were still 7 steps. To see how that stacks up to previous years go here.

4/9/2005 City, State, Pos and Div info was added to the Single Year Records page. [PPA/M results moved to pikespeakmarathon.org in 2015]

4/8/2005 Thirty-nine “Things done right / things done wrong” stories were added from the 2004 race. (My family is out of town so I did some catching up:-) This brings the total to 269!

4/7/2005 City and State info was added to the Current Records page. [PPA/M results moved to pikespeakmarathon.org in 2015]

4/3/2005 While working on some stats for the 50th anniverary book I got tired of counting how many times past winners had won so the totals have been added to the Past Winners page. [PPA/M results moved to pikespeakmarathon.org in 2015]

3/4/2005 Well here is hoping you were on your feet because both races are full already!!!!

3/1/2005 Registration for the races start today! Triple Crown of Running

2/27/2005 The course description got a MAJOR run through to get it ready for inclusion in the 50th anniversary book. However, it is so long that not all of it will be in the book so keep checking back!

10/16/2004 During a visit to the offices of the TCR to help them organize their results I found some printouts from various years to help improve the [PPA/M results search moved to pikespeakmarathon.org in 2015]. I had always felt that the 1989 Woman’s marathon results were incomplete in that no women were listed above the age of 44 which seemed hard to believe. As it turns out there were 19 runners not listed in the results that were on a printout. In the 1988 men’s Ascent it looked like about 60-90 men were missing from the 30-34 age-group after the time of 4:03:43. Sure enough, I found the missing 75 men! This brings the database up to 52,442 results!!! I also found printout from 1985 and 1986 that had ages listed on them. This lowered the total number of missing ages in the database from 1,099 to 403 — most of which are from 1987. 1987 also happens to be the only year Ascent times were not listed in the Marathon results. Be that as it may, the database is getting closer to perfection!
